Well first we get the new magazine and now the new forum, PC Answers you are spoiling us.
What do I think of the forum: well it looks better than the old one, if there is anything I would like to see is more rounded edges all these straight lines make it look a bit harsh.
Good effort for the first time.
PS I am getting use to the magazine and I quite like it, it will be interesting to see the next issue.

Scott Ewart - 30 June 2008 - 5:20pmThank you for your kind words. You're the first person to officially use these forums as they've just gone live.
The forums could be better, but they do look nicer at least.

PS - 30 June 2008 - 5:44pmWell, first you've messed up the magazine and now you've messed up the Forum.
I've just had big problems logging in, and you didn't even have the courtesy to warn us of the change.
Just shows your contempt for regular readers.

PebbleUK - 30 June 2008 - 6:24pmI stopped buy ing the mag a long time ago, But continued using the forum as i regard as one of the best around.
I'll Probably continue, But from what people have posted about the mag, I think the Forum may be going the same way.
The old layout was much better.

Stewart40 - 30 June 2008 - 7:33pmI couldn't agree more with PS. What a botched job.
If this is it - I'll just have to delete PC Answers from my Favourites after all this time.

Well maybe they look better in your eyes - to me they look suspiciously like the rubbish over at thinkbroadband.com wherer it is impossible to follow a thread properly as everyone goes off replying to one post and then another and you get a huge messy tree.
Just completely screwed my account up due to the LACK OF WARNING about this - tried logging in with my old username and password - failed, so re-registered - but had not yet changed my email address on my old profile, so now I have 2 accounts.
Personally I liked the old style forum better because you did actually have some consistancy between the different sites.

And if I have to fill in a Captcha every time I post I won't post.
I've also noticed there's no Top button, or next, or page button either. This is not a forum but a blog reply system.

What in god's name
Audiodood - 30 June 2008 - 9:27pmWhat in god's name happened?
This forum is abysmal to say the least. What with the screwy usernames (obviously a cock up during the import process), replies that are all over the place rather than in order, the most recent replies at the top of a thread rather than at the bottom, and don't even get me started on the god awful colour scheme.
As for all that "captcha" malarky, what exactly is that all about?

I know from over at PC+ that there's been a shortage of an online editor for Future recently with Richard Cobbett doing most of the work (along with singlehandedly writing the mag!), but did Future just get their summer work experience student to come up with something on their first day?
I've noticed that the captcha seems to have disappeared for this reply?

What the hell happened?
I have still yet to buy the mag and by what I have been reading from the extremely learned members of the old forum I shall not be parting with my hard earned cash.
As for this forum it only took me 23 mins to log on whereas previously 20seconds tops.
What happened to the "view new posts" button, then when you find the new posts everything is upside down, I thought I emigrated down under.
What happened to the last 6 days of June, I know I'm suffering from memory loss has this turned into a worldwide problem, perhaps Morgan Changeri didn't step down and there was a democratic election in Zimbawe, perhaps all those brave soldiers didn't lose their lives, PERHAPS ALL OF THE NEW STAFF AT PCA DIDN'T HAVE FRONTAL LABOTOMYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, but this forum, up until today was a respected institution, at one stroke you have destroyed every ounce of credibilty, A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE MORONIC IDIOTS THAT HAVE MADE THE DECISION TO COCK THINGS UP.
I hope that I shall see the many learned and respected people that I have "met" on this forum elsewhere for unless things change to something more usable this forum will go the way of the mag, DOWN THE TOILET.
If I answer the maths question 4+2= with anything other than 6 will that make me an automated spam submission?
I bid all a fond farewell it has been nice knowing you, though, hell only knows where I will get intelligent answers from now.

If this is the way the forum is going then I'm off because this useless.

So after using this forum
TanyaC - 1 July 2008 - 4:20pmSo after using this forum for years, some of you are going to abandon it just because there's been a couple of days downtime?
In upgrading the website and forum to a new system, we've unfortunately run into some teething problems. This is because we're working with complicated systems, not because we have contempt for our readers or because we're “moronic idiots”! Sometimes even the most carefully laid plans don't work out quite as you'd hoped. We're working hard to get things up and running properly, and we'd appreciate your patience.
We always want to hear your feedback – positive or negative - but we'd rather only hear about what you like, what you don't like and why. It's nice that some of you are so passionate about the PC Answers forum, but please keep it polite.
Many thanks to everyone else for your patience in these trying times! Sorry for the bother and frustration, we're really glad you're here and hope you will bear with us while things get fixed up.

No Tanya, it has nothing to do with the downtime (didn't even notice the downtime to be honest).
The problem is that this doesn't even deserve the accolade of being called a forum, it's basic blogging software that has absolutely NO features at all and is completely user unfriendly with regards to navigation, etc.
As far as appearance goes, it's not exactly "easy on the eye". All in all Tanya, whoever substituted the original phpBB forum for this needs taking out at dawn, being blindfolded, given the last cigarette, etc, etc.
Posts since last visit
Barrie - 1 July 2008 - 5:57pmThats what I really miss on this new layout. New posts was always my first port of call. Now we have to meander over the whole forum to find them. Or have I missed something?

Is this not what BETA testing is all about - why were the users not consulted in any way?
I refer my learned colleague to the Plus Net Community Site, where the site spent several months in BETA, with users volunteering to assist with the testing and development of the site.
That resulted in a switchover that was publicised in advance and without the reaction we are seeing here.
So after using this forum for years, some of you are going to abandon it just because there's been a couple of days downtime?
Well if you had a couple of days downtime, I'd consider asking your ISP what the problem was as the old forum was up Sunday night, Monday lunchtime and this joke had arrived by teatime. No downtime with the PCA site, so it must be your ISP at fault.
WTF????? No pre warning...
pca_vampiro - 1 July 2008 - 8:22pmWTF?????
No pre warning... just like that the community has gone because you are trying to intergrate the way the mag looks on the web.. it dont work..
been part of this forum for a few years now...was the only place that i could trust to give straight answers and hardly any back stabbing or bitchingness, which other forums have.
The old style of the fourm is much easier on the eye and is the way a forum should be....
yes blogging may be the "in" thing now but a forum is not a blog...

To be honest Geoff, I didn't notice any "downtime" at all.
I logged on at around 2pm on the day in question, and we had good old phpBB, I then logged back in at around 6pm and I was then presented with this abortion of a so called forum.
As for the posting box with the text editor that is now "forced" upon us, sort yourself out PCA.....the line break problem (2 lines for a break), is a bug that is older than my grandmother.
