Aotostreamer

In issue 187 pg 31 Christian writes that it is not possible to use Autostreamer to slipstream SP3 into XP. I have managed to do this on 4 occasions am I missing something, are my discs OK. I have reinstalled XP from these and they seem to be OK. System Properties in Control Panel shows XP at SP3.

Re: AutoStreamer

When we came to test AutoStreamer with Service Pack 3 we couldn't get it to work with a number of XP installation discs, both previously slipstreamed ones, and non-slipstreamed ones.

Since we included that tip in the magazine, it appears a number of people have reported success with AutoStreamer, but that's countered by the numbers of people who fail. As a result, you're more than welcome to try it (and it's good to see it's worked in your case), but it's not something you can rely on. nLite works perfectly every time in our experience, which is why we pointed people towards that instead.

Autostreamer

Thank you for your reply, I must be one of the fortunate ones as all 4 disks I have slipstreamed with SP3 have reinstalled on their machines with no problems.

re: AutoStreamer

There's a weird thing. Just tried it again, but this time it appears to have worked (didn't install from it, but booted from CD, which worked for the first time). I should point out that we did check online after we had run into problems with it to see if it was something we were doing wrong, only to find others were having the same problem, so perhaps it's a case of the vocal minority making themselves heard.

Still, nLite is guaranteed to work with slipstreaming SP3 into Windows XP, so if AutoStreamer doesn't work for anyone, give that a go instead.
