I am afraid I am loosing my faith on AVG Free, I have recently had updating problems and today it popped up and told me I had not enough memory to allow the update to proceed.Surprised It did eventually update though.

John AVG on my wife's laptop

John

AVG on my wife's laptop crashed yesterday for no apparent reason and I could not get it to work so I downloaded a fresh copy completely removed the old one and installed it.. I have found AVG8 does not install correctly unless you remove all the settings etc. completely from your system.

AVG was slow yesterday downloading both the software and the updates.

I think it is something we wil have to put up with to obtain such an excellent Anti- Virus program that is free.

How does one get rid of all

How does one get rid of all the settings from AVG or any other anti-virus s/ware when they havn't uninstalled properly?

I've had trouble with AVG v7.5 and v8 - v8 wont instal because it says I have another anti-virus prog installed.  I did instal Ashampoo because of the probs I had with AVG v7.5.  Ashampoo was uninstalled, or so I thought.  Your advice very much appreciated.

Uninstall AVs

I don't think AVG has a dedicated remover but if you want to try a generic one, go to this site and download the last file in the list. While you are there have a look at the 'Readme' file.

ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/removal/

You could also try running http://www.ccleaner.com/ which will clean up orphaned entries.

Whatever you use, create a new Restore point before you run them.

AVG 8 Free the biggest pain in the rear

Like other users I consider AVG 8 free the biggest pain in the rear that I have come across. Every time a user logs on it shows a error & every time you open the interface automatic updates has been turned off, I turn it back on & next time you log on it's been disabled again, also every time you download an update you have to restart the computer every time, AVG 7.5 only asked occasionally, this has been going on for a few weeks.

A week last Saturday I opened the interface to find the antivirus & anti spyware components were showing out of date as well so I  click on update, restarted the computer only to find the same errors showing.

GOOD RIDDANCE AVG8 hello Avast

John Apart from the recent

John

Apart from the recent problem downloading updates which now seems to be resolved we have not had any problems with AVG.

Regarding uninstaling unwanted software I use Revo Uninstaler, see link below

http://www.revouninstaller.com/uninstaller_help_page.html

This gives you the opportunity to remove leftover fies the standard remover leaves behind. It also creates a restore point incase somehing goes wrong.
