Best Affiliates?

I run a website which has around 20,000 visitors a month. I would like to carry some ads, but wondered about the pros and cons of signing up with an affiliate company.

I've googled but there seems to be a lot of dubious promises out there. DAK of a site or place that can give me unbiased information? What are the best companies to sign with? I'm confused and would appreciate any pointers.
