From Desktop loading takes 4mins to open wireless connection

I have a Dell Dimension 9150 with a WG311v3 802.11g card, running XP Media Centre Edition 2005, SP3, Bitdefender and Spysweeper on a home network from a BT Hub. Signal is 100% at 54Mbps. Router download speed is 7116Mbps from BT.

When the desktop loads it takes 4mins before the w/less card icon appears in the system tray and connects to the router. Meanwhile the taskbar is totally inactive, but I can use programmes from the desktop that do not need internet.

This suddenly happened about 4 wks ago. I have run processes to establish I have no malware or viruses, and my firewall and antispyware and antivirus programmmes do not cause this. My start up is only 5 processes.

There is another Dell pc beside mine on the network that has no problems. I have interchanged the cards but the situation is the same.

In Admin Tools....System Tools/Event Viewer/System, I see error log code 3095 re Netlogon configuration.

How can I sort this?

I assume you are set up to 'Obtain an IP address automatically'. Try giving your PC a fixed IP address, see if this solves the problem. I don't know much about the Home Hub, but it should be  possible to reserve the address in the router so that it is not given to another device.

Thanks. Sorry no to have replied before but I have been away.

I'll give it a try.

You might also want to check in System Properties that you are set as a Workgroup and in Computer Management Services that the Network services are enabled.

Thanks, Tom. All network

Thanks, Tom. All network services are enabled. There is nothing showing in System Properties!

Have now used a fixed IP address and am relieved to say that this has cured the problem!

However I'm no nearer to finding the cause of the problem. If I find out I'll let you know.
