Transferring files
Isitme - 19 October 2008 - 2:00pmI am not sure about your reference to 32/64 bit, unless you are using a 64bit version, you have no need to worry about it. To transfer the files and settings use the Windows Easy Transfer in Vista, which you will find in Start>AllPrograms>Accessories>System Tools.
Depending on what version of Vista you have you can either back up the whole computer or files only, by using the Backup and Restore Centre. You will find this in Start>AllPrograms>Maintenance folder. The Home Premium version does not allow you to back up the full PC.
If you want to back up XP you will have to use a 3rd party program like Acronis TI or Ghost. Likewise if you only have Vista HP.

Restore files
Isitme - 21 October 2008 - 3:22pmAs far as I know you can't make an installation disk in Vista like you could in previous versions. I am not sure of the exact reason but it is something to do with Vista installing in a completely different way from the other OSs. Likewise you can't install Vista by copying it to the HDD as you could in previous versions.
You should have been supplied with at least a restore disk or given the opertunity to make one. If you didn't get a disk the installation files are probably on a hidden partition on the drive. You will have to have a good look through the Menus to see if there is some way to make your disks. I would think there may be something in the Accessories or Maintenance folders. If you can't find anything there, you would have to get in touch with the PC supplier.

file transfer from xp to vista
pca_Baldy Bouncer - 30 October 2008 - 7:55amHi
This is related to the previous post but slightly different in that i want to transfer my xp pro files and settings over to vista as well, but can this be done when the hard drive containing Xp is installed as a slave in the same pc, as Vista is on a separate hard drive. i.e Vista is C:\Drive and Xp is E:\ drive. Any help would be grateful. If this cant be done where in xp can i find my email addresses and favourites to transfer over to Vista
P.S i dont want a dual boot system.
