Audio probelm with new mobo

I have just replaced my old mobo with an asus P4P800-VM mobo,a nd am having trouble getting the audio to work.

I am by no mens very skilled on replacing parts, learning more through trial and error, but this has got me stumped so far.

I am fairly certain that I have got all the drivers etc, and I can see the soundmax icon in the sys tray, and am able to adjust the volume properties. And it is set to 'auto' in the bios.

Could it be a problem with the wiring connections on the mobo itself, could I have missed one, or got something round the wrong way ?

Any help really appreciated.

Audio problems

Daft questions but all ones I have experienced.

Have you checked you are plugged into the right socket, has the allocation of the sockets been changed in soundmax, or is the sound output allocated to the front connectors/back connectors and you are using the wrong ones?

To be honest with you, I

To be honest with you, I have no idea !

Is there a way to check ?

I presume you have the

I presume you have the manual and have double checked.

If you are using the front panel it can be difficult to get the header connections right if they are not all in one plug.

I do have the manual, and am beginning to think that this is where my problem lies.

The connections are all single plugs, some not marked.

I think it may depend on luck whether you get them right or not. !!

I sympathise. I once spent a

I sympathise.

I once spent a week building new PCs and they had single wires.

Even after having done a couple of hundred, I still occasionally got it wrong.

The plugs SHOULD have some sort of marking on them and they may be different coloured wires.

If you can find some indication on the wires, post your findings and the appropriate page from the manual, and I'll see if I can help.

Can only suggest that you play something which you know will work, like a tune from windows, take the input plug into your speaker, and plug it into each of the audio sockets in turn.

I don't suppose you have mute button on your speaker system?

Thanks for all the

Thanks for all the replies.

I found a cheap pci soundcard in my drawer and have fitted it, and now sound is working.

Will leave it at that, as I have just had my head turned for about 8 hours by those little wires !!
